The Joys of Winter Hiking and Metal Forging: One Man's Story

The rest of the week Alex focuses on crafting custom knives using his propane forge. He begins by shaping and sharpening the blades on his grinder. Then he employs the forge to heat treat and temper each knife blade for optimal strength and flexibility. Next comes the meticulous sharpening and polishing work done by hand. Finally, Alex crafts some unique handles made of exotic wood types and fits them onto the completed blades utilizing pins, epoxy and protective sealants.
